Owners End Fruitful Roots Development; Land Under Contract

July 29. Construction on Fruitful Roots, a new brewery and restaurant planned for downtown Cornelius, will not move forward, according to a post on the company’s Instagram page.

“After a long road of trying to bring our vision to life, we have made the tough decision to walk away,” reads the post, which also states that the property is under contract to be sold.

Only light underground utility work had begun on the brewery, and details on the buyer of the one-acre lot were not immediately available.

The owners, Douglas Marion and Travis Marion, and their wives Shannon and Chelsea, respectively, had originally planned to open the new brewery last May.

“While there were glimmers of hope along the way, the road has been filled with setbacks we couldn’t have seen coming,” said the families in a statement. “We fought hard for this dream, but at some point, reality has to win.”

The development was approved under Conditional Zoning, so it could move forward if the new buyer wants to build a brewery under the approved plan.

If the new land owner intends to develop it as a different residential or commercial use he or she must restart the approval process from the beginning.
